“The historical reasons why you might’ve wanted to go for a subdomain don’t really apply as much, and that leaves you with, okay both are on the same domain, overall, and so it’s really a question of which one is easier for you.”

Around the same time, some SEOs started noticing that Google favors Sub directories for sites such as Amazon, Facebook and etc.

  • W.E. Jonk: One of the reasons I favour(-ed) sub-domains over sub-directory is because of multi-region sites. That is, you can serve the sub-domain from a server closer to the region. On the other hand, CDN is pretty common now and I wouldn't recommend setting this up because it can be quite time confusing. So may I conclude with indifference....?
  • Arseniy Bolotsko:  ;I guess at this post I will base my decision on which is easier (sub directories). I am working on a Wordpress MU at the moment that will combine about 12 departments that previously hosted on separate domains and different platforms. All departments post a ton of content and they do it independently from each other. So we decided on WP MU for administration and branding reasons. ;
